Put your own domain in your product QR codes

Your product QR code contains a web address. By default, it uses an address provided by CodePersist. With Lite or Premium, you can choose an address under your own domain for new codes, such as id.example.com. This is optional: you can keep using the CodePersist address.

What does “my own domain” mean?

A domain is a name you register for your business on the internet, such as example.com. A subdomain adds a name in front of it: id.example.com could be dedicated to your product QR codes while your existing website stays where it is. Customers see your brand’s address when they open the code, and CodePersist sends them to the product destination you publish.

Already printed QR codes?

A printed QR code always keeps the web address it contains. Adding a domain cannot change that address. You can still update the destination through CodePersist, but using a different address in the code requires a new QR code. Choose your address before printing new packaging, and keep any address already printed working.

What you need before starting

A domain you own, an unused subdomain such as id.example.com, and room for a custom domain on your Lite or Premium plan. A setup that is still pending also uses one place in your allowance. Do not choose your main website address or an address already used by another service.

You also need access to the domain’s DNS settings. DNS is a set of instructions that tells the internet which service handles an address. These settings are managed by your DNS provider, often the company where you registered the domain, but sometimes another company. If someone manages your website, ask them who manages DNS and share these steps with them.

You will add two small instructions

In DNS settings, an instruction is called a record. CodePersist shows the names and values to enter for these two records. Use the values from your own setup screen; the addresses in this guide are examples.

RecordPurpose
TXTA short text note that proves you control the chosen address. Its record type is TXT. CodePersist gives you a unique value to enter.
CNAMEConnects your chosen address to CodePersist. Its record type is CNAME. Keep it in place while you use this address with CodePersist.

Connect your address, step by step

  1. In CodePersist, open Domains and select Add custom domain. Enter your address, such as id.example.com. Enter only the name: no https://, slash or page name. Select Add domain. Keep the instructions open.
  2. In another browser tab, sign in to your DNS provider and open the DNS settings for your domain. Look for Add record or a similar option. Leave your existing website and email records in place.
  3. Add a TXT record. Copy its Name and Value from CodePersist into the matching fields at your provider. Keep the value exactly as shown, including uppercase and lowercase letters, without adding quotation marks. Save the record. The verification value is valid for 24 hours; if it expires, use Restart verification in CodePersist and replace it with the new value.
  4. Add a CNAME record. Copy its Name and Target from CodePersist and save it. Some providers call Target “Value” or “Points to.” If your provider is Cloudflare, choose DNS only for this record. If you are asked to replace an existing record, stop and check that you chose an unused address.
  5. Return to CodePersist and select Verify and connect. DNS changes may take time to become visible. CodePersist also prepares the secure connection (HTTPS) for your address. Use Check status while it is pending and wait for Active before using the address for new codes.
Does your provider ask for a shorter Name?

Some providers add your domain automatically. For the example id.example.com, the full TXT name is _codepersist-verification.id.example.com. If the form already adds .example.com, enter only _codepersist-verification.id. For the CNAME name, enter id in that form. Check the saved result: the domain should appear once, not twice. The TXT Value and CNAME Target still need the complete values shown in CodePersist.

After ownership has been verified, you may remove the TXT proof record. Keep the CNAME. If you delete the domain from CodePersist and reconnect it later, you will need a new TXT verification value.

Choose it for a new product and test it

Once the domain is Active, create a new product. Under QR web address, choose your connected address, then publish the product. Open its actual product link and scan the finished QR code before printing a batch. Active confirms the address connection; testing the product also checks that its destination works.

If you get stuck

Why is my address still pending?

First check the saved record names, the exact TXT value, its expiry and the CNAME target against CodePersist. If they match, DNS changes may still be spreading. Try Check status again later. Even after DNS is visible, the secure connection may still be preparing. If CodePersist reports a service failure, retry later rather than changing correct records.

Can I finish later or correct the address?

Close keeps your pending setup. Open Setup instructions from the domain list to return to it. If an address was entered incorrectly and has not been verified, use Change hostname.

Keep printed codes working

Keep your domain registration renewed, its CNAME in place and the required CodePersist plan active. Owning the domain alone does not keep CodePersist product links running if hosting ends.

You cannot normally remove a domain while a product uses it. Removal does not move printed addresses to another domain. After removal is confirmed, remove the unused CNAME at your DNS provider. Before downgrading a plan, review the affected domains and products: hosting can end for domains above the new allowance, products using them can be disabled, and their printed codes can stop working.
