Your first steps

Your first product QR code

Start with one product and one useful page. Follow these steps to turn them into a QR code your customers can use.

From your product to your packaging
  1. Set up your product

Add its barcode number and a link to your product page.

  2. Make your links live

Save your choices, then publish them for customers.

  3. Download, test, then print

Get the SVG artwork and check a sample before printing a batch.

Have these ready

  • Your product name and its existing barcode number (GTIN).
  • A public page about this product, with its full web address. Open it on your phone to check that it works without signing in.
  • A CodePersist account and workspace. If this is your first visit, complete the workspace setup after signing in.
What is a GTIN? Can I make one up?

GTIN is the product number used in barcodes. Enter the 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits assigned to your product, keeping any zeros at the start. CodePersist checks the number’s format; it does not issue numbers or verify brand ownership. If you do not know yours, ask the person who manages your product barcodes.

Set up your product

Open Products and choose Add product. The setup screen asks for:

  • Product name and product number: enter the details you prepared.
  • QR web address: keep the included CodePersist address, or choose an active custom domain. Choose before printing; this address becomes part of the code.
  • Product page: paste the full address of your public page, including https://.
  • Templates: choose the topics you need, such as instructions or food information. These prepare spaces for links; they do not write or upload your content.
  • Create the product. It is saved, but it is not live yet.

What should a customer see after scanning?

You have two choices. Both use the same product QR code.

The starting setting

Open one page

  1. Customer opens the QR link
  2. Your selected page opens

Useful when one page has everything a customer needs. Your product page is the default at first; you can choose another saved link.

Optional topic chooser

Let customers choose

  1. Customer opens the QR link
  2. CodePersist shows your menu of links
  3. Customer picks a link and opens your content

Useful for instructions, support and other choices. CodePersist hosts the menu. Your website or document host still holds the linked content.

In Pages & links, select Show a topic chooser when scanned, then Use topic chooser. Save and publish. To return to one page, open the same option and turn the chooser off.

Make your links live

  • In Pages & links, check your product-page address. Add any other links you want customers to use. Empty optional topics can wait.
  • Choose whether a scan opens one page or a menu of links. Save your changes.
  • Select Publish and wait for the product to show Published. If publication fails, review the message and retry.
  • Open the product link and check the destination. Allow a little time for a published change to appear everywhere.

Download, test, then print

  • Open the QR code tab. Start with the existing settings unless your printer needs a different size.
  • If you change QR settings, select Save configuration and publish the updated version before downloading.
  • Select Download SVG. SVG is an image file your designer or printer can use without turning the code into a blurry screenshot.
  • Print a sample at the intended size. Scan it and open every destination you plan to share before approving a full batch.

Change a link after printing

A new manual or a new website address does not need new packaging. Keep the product number and QR web address, then update the linked page in CodePersist.

Same printed code, updated destination
  1. Edit the link

Open the product’s Pages & links tab.

  2. Save your changes

The old published destination stays live for now.

  3. Publish and check

Once the update is live, the same code opens the new destination.

Something not working?

My scan still opens the old page

Check that you saved and published the change. In direct-scan mode, check which link is marked as the default. Give the update time to appear, then open the QR link again.

Download SVG is unavailable

Save any changed QR settings, then publish the current version. A disabled product must be enabled and published first. The preview is for checking your choices; use Download SVG for the file you send to your printer.

I added links, but customers do not see a menu

Adding links does not turn on the menu. In Pages & links, open the scan experience choice and select Use topic chooser. Save and publish. In direct-scan mode, a normal scan opens only your default link.

What happens if I disable a product?

Disabling removes the product from the scan service, so printed codes can stop working. Removal may take time. To use it again, wait for disabling to finish, enable it within your plan’s allowance, then publish. Permanently deleting a disabled product also removes its saved history.

Can I go back to an earlier version?

Open History and restore the version you want. This creates a new saved version from those earlier settings. Review it, then publish it to change what customers see. Restoring alone does not update live scans.
